Blossom the panda

Hello! Pleased to introduce you all to my newest free pattern, Blossom the panda, this adorable panda just loves to stop and smell the flowers and maybe pick some out for friends. I made this one in pink because Valentine's day is approaching and it seemed fitting but I think it would look very cute in any color.
For this project you'll need DK yarn in colors: white 20 gr, pink 15 gr and a little of the colors of your choosing for the flowers, 3 mm crochet hook, 8 mm safety eyes, stuffing and tapestry needle.

ABBREVIATIONS (U.S.):

R: Round
inc: increase
dec: decrease

**: repeat to the end of round

(...) x...: repeat the inside of parentheses according to the indicated number, example: (...) x2
[...] total stitches at the end of round

 EYE PATCH:

Make two.

With pink.

Don't pull your ring closed too tight so that it is easier to place our safety eyes through later.

R1: 6 sc in mr
R2: 1 sc, (hdc inc) x3, 2 sc [9]

I like to sl st to finish so it looks smoother but it is up to you. Break yarn leaving enough for sewing.

HEAD:

With white.

R1: 6 sc in mr
R2: *sc inc* [12]
R3: *1 sc, sc inc* [18]
R4: *2 sc, sc inc* [24]
R5: *3 sc, sc inc* [30]
R6: *4 sc, sc inc* [36]
R7: *5 sc, sc inc* [42]
R8-14: 42 sc [42]
R15: *5 sc, sc dec* [36]
R16: *4 sc, sc dec* [30]

Place eyes through the patch and then between R12-13, leaving 6 stitches between each (counting from eye to eye, not from patch). We want the patches to have the half double crochet section in a diagonal, I sew the patches in place right now but if you prefer you can do that once the head is done. The top part of the patches should be between R10-11 and the lower part between R14-15.

R17: *3 sc, sc dec* [24]
R18: *2 sc, sc dec* [18]
R19: *1 sc, sc dec* [12]
R20: *sc dec* [6]

Close.

With pink yarn embroider a nose between R14-17. With white yarn outline the bottom side of each eye.

EARS:

Make two.

With pink.

R1: 7 sc in mr
R2: *sc inc* [14]
R3-4: 14 sc [14]

Break yarn leaving enough for sewing.
Sew ear between R3-9 of the head.

BODY:

Starting with white.

R2: *sc inc* [12]
R3: *1 sc, sc inc* [18]
R4: *2 sc, sc inc* [24]
R5: *3 sc, sc inc* [30]
R6-8: 30 sc [30]
R9: *3 sc, sc dec* [24]
R10: 24 sc [24]

Change to pink.

R11: 24 sc [24]
R12: *2 sc, sc dec* [18]
R13: 18 sc [18]

Break yarn leaving enough for sewing.

ARMS:

Stuff lightly at the beginning.
Make two.

With pink.

R1: 5 sc in mr
R2: *sc inc* [10]
R3-5: 10 sc [10]
R6: *3 sc, sc dec* [8]
R7-8: 8 sc [8]
R9: *2 sc, sc dec* [6]
1 ch, turn, flatten the piece and close it up working 3 sc

Break yarn leaving enough for sewing.
Sew one arm on the side of the body between R12-13 and the other vertically between R10-13 so that it looks sort of stretched out (this is the one that will hold the flowers).

LEGS:

Stuff very lightly only at the beginning.
Make two.

With pink.

R1: 6 sc in mr
R2: *sc inc* [12]
R3-5: 12 sc [12]
R6: *4 sc, sc dec* [10]
R7-8: 10 sc [10]
1 ch, turn, flatten the piece and close it up working 5 sc.

Break yarn leaving enough for sewing.
Sew the legs on the sides of the body between R3-8.

Now that we have the arms and legs on the body, sew the head to the body.

FLOWERS:

With flower color.

Leave a long tail at the beginning of the chain.

8 ch
R1: 7 sc
R2: 5 ch

Break yarn leaving a short tail.

Now we'll roll the single crochet portion on itself, sewing a few stitches using the tail from the beginning to keep it like that. With the ending tail make a small knot and cut the yarn.

You can make as many flowers as you like. Now grab a long piece of yarn and wrap it around the flowers, knot it making sure it is secure, with this same yarn go through the "hand" of your panda and back out again (do this with the two tails you have), now make another knot and a little bow, cut the leftover yarn.
